Title: What is your occupation?
Post by: SilverZZR on August 30, 2013, 12:41:17 pm
We may have done one of these in the past but it is out dated and long gone by now. So what is your occupation? I dont ask to be nosy. I ask because what you do for a living may be able to help other members of the board. For example I own a Cabin Staining business. I am a professional "painter" and have been for the last 13+ years. I am an expert on all things related to painting and staining. If you need to hire a professional to do a job I will give you the hook up. If you just have questions then I have answers. I know all their is to know about interior and exterior paints/stains. If you are a doctor, lawyer, nurse, cashier at McDonalds, mechanic, etc ... let us know. If you can hook us up with deals or knowledge then say what it is you can offer in your related field. I will keep a running list here on the first post. You are also welcome to include a phone number or email if you wish. Also, if you would please put it in the format like mine is below for easier copy and paste to the master list. Thanks

The Master List

I'm a full time desk holder downer (systems analayst) with accenture (formerly Marriott Business Services).

All I have to say is I am not made for a desk job....and I've been doing it for almost 6 years now.  Would much rather be doing work that uses more of my body than just my brain...and yes, i've have manual labor jobs before and I honestly prefer them.  But baby needs food and I cant beat the pay! :eat

Previous - Elec Engr with Rockwell (Let's say Rockwell - but, I was in same defense division that was part of North American Aviation, became North American Rockwell, then Rockwell, and then Boeing). Defense Division doing Subamirne Navigation Systems and Minute Man Guidance system, circuit design originally and then Tech Rep in the fieldat Navy Sites on the Submarine Navigation Systems.

ANYWAY -- RETIRED is easier to say.  :21  and I mostly just RIDE.  :happypep :happyrider

Deuce, I'm about half the price of the office and much, much lower on install though we haven't had a free install offer in months. ;) Yes, if you know the right people and they have the right tools there is a cheap way to get in.

Would you like an example or two? <grin>

More worth while than that? If you have a billing problem you have a person to call, not a number where you are a generic customer. I know what you are supposed to have and at what rates. I can fix them if there is a problem. :)

In this economy anything I can.  I craigslist, buy cheap bikes fix them up and sale for a profit.  Usually do about 15 to 20 bikes a year.  I play with a  band full time.  Anywhere from 2 to 5 gigs a week.  We play everything from CCR to Prince.  I also do landscaping part time.   Music and building bikes pays the bills basically.  It is a pretty sweet life, I wouldn't have it any other way.

We'll, as of Thursday, I am occupationless. For the first time since I started that crappy job, I was late for reasons NOT related to my truck breaking down. Sad part is that Tuesday I would have dropped a full point and the half point for being late wouldn't matter, much.

I guess thats how it works when you refuse to kiss ass.

But its okay, there's something else out there waiting for another hourly wage slave.

Bright side is that I have heard from a few people that I worked with that the fellow they replaced me with walked out, and a handfull of people together couldnt do what I did.

Oh well, I'm off to find my next dead end Monday.

I did have a Specialists job not too long ago, but made it look so easy, they thought anyone could do it. So, they took me out of it, and put a regular Maint. guy in it .....(thinking they could save $20,000 a yr) (they were WRONG) Now it takes 4 Maint. guys to do what I used to do myself ....lol dumbass managers ....

So anyway, I'm back in a boot factory, but so far I've done more training and supervising than anything else.

I may like this job.

So, I'm back in a boot factory, been training my coworkers and new boss on how to operate a Desma  machine.

Recent events have highlighted my more eccentric skill set however.

They are taking me off the production floor and appointing me as maintenance.

Seems this means anything from industrial machine repair and metal fab to cleaning the bathrooms and taking out the trash.

But, no more production floor.

Woo mother f'n Hoo!!

I get paid to be an industrial handy man.

Might even get a trip to Germany to train at the factory, but ain't holding my breath on that one.

Not a supervisor, but expected to act like one.

Essentially, if I see it needs done, I just go do it.

And I'm the first maintenance guy in the building (new start up co)

I think I'm going to like this job.

I am currently a project engineer for a telecom company.  The company's niche in the industry is cell towers and cell tower sites.

 :ditto

Believe me I understand what you guys are sayin.  We don't build them for ourselves.  We build them for company's American Tower or Crown Castle.  Those guys own towers/sites and rent space to AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile and the like.  And the demand for NEW towers isn't there anymore.  The vast majority of our work now is actually upgrades and modification work on existing sites.

Too bad...there's no cell coverage where I live.

Hi, I'm new here and I just moved to Knoxville.
I'm working in the offshore. Good job and lots of free time to ride my bike.
I love touring around the country side.
Bill.

BillJ I just saw your post in the New Members Introduction thread.  What do you do "working in the offshore"?  The first thing that comes to mind is oil rigs in the ocean, but that seems like it would be an aweful big commute from knox-vegas.

Hi BudLong, I'm in the oil researching so on boats and not on rigs.
For my employer it doesn't matter where I live since I work all over the world and have to fly anyway.

But was interested in soil layers (have an uni degree) and in the end went to sea. Love it ever since. Also the pay and free time.
