Gsx ???
« on: October 16, 2011, 11:34:16 pm »
Have I done my research right?

1.the SV650 is a naked gsxr.

2.Whats the difference between a gsxr and a gsxf?

Suzuki didn't have SV or GSXF on their website.

what timmay said ^^^
gsxr far superior in stock platform when it comes to engine, suspension, brakes, and frame/swing arm. the sv can be modded heavily to make comparable, but still dont have the engine capabilities of the gsxr.
and the gsxf is the katana sport touring. still an inline 4 but detuned for a different power band and completely different suspension

OKay

SV: Classified as a sport tourer. Has a 650cc Vtwin Like tim said. Has a different frame than the GSX-R and also has a 160 rear tire instead of the 180

GSXF is also a sport tourer. basically a smaller less powerful version of the Busa. Bigger heavier and with an Air cooled detuned GSX-R motor.

They are 3 all together different bikes. The SV has become one of the best handling bikes with just a couple of simple mods. racers have sought after them religiously.

With that being said Curt, is the tuned GSX-R motor interchangeable with the frame on a katana?

The earlier air/oil cooled motors are if I'm not mistaken. Dale(gotgixer) would be the one to verify that. As for a newer water cooled motor, anything is possible with the right amount of money and skill

Yes, the '85-'92 oil cooled GSXR and '96-'05 B-12 engines will go into a Katana frame with little if any mods.

Have you actually done this? Reason I ask, I can confirm that 600s and 750s from the same year/style run are not interchangeable.. Meaning 750 in 600 frame etc... I mean yes it fits but we got 3 of 5 motor mount bolts holdin this thing in..

Where you mount your radiator considering the rads hang from the frame? Just really surprised u could swap a water cooled FI motor into an oil and air carbureator chassis..

Now I could see the late 80s early/mid 90s Gsxr oil and air motors fit in the katanas.. Bandit motors off in the katanas and etc..

Yes. That's what dale and I both said.  The air/oil cooled motors swap and dale added the bandit motors.

The water cooled are not a direct bolt in but with the money and skill anything can be done. Fab mounts, wiring, etc......

His most recent answer says that a h20 cooled motor will fit in place of an air/oil? Jeff unless it was added prior, I added the bandit.

And yes.. I think we all have seen a small block our big block Chevy on two wheels.. Just because it can be done or it fits in the frame doesn't mean it fits?

Just think its misleading.. U can google all day on the 600-750 swap and you can find thread after thread saying it works.. And far less info saying the frame slider motor mount bolts are about 5mm off.. Too close for any kind of Bracket system..

Yes, the '85-'92 oil cooled GSXR and '96-'05 B-12 engines will go into a Katana frame with little if any mods.

here is dales quote....... nothing said of water cooled. he specified the air/oil cooled just like i did, then he said the b-12 bandit motors also. i will trust what he says because he has done the b-12 swap and rides one of the most amazing 86 750's with a b-12 powering it.

i said a water cooled is possible with the money and skill needed to do it. didnt say it "fit" because but its not impossible. i dont see it as misleading, i see it as someone wanting to do something different in the sport. if no one tried to do something just because it wasnt supposed to be there we wouldnt have sssa swaps, fork/shock swaps, gay swingarm extensions, so on and so for. if someone wants to swap a water cooled busa motor on to a kz400 chassis i say go for it.

In the Oil cooled world, that is what we call them. Have for years. B-12 sure beats typing out Bandit 1200 or gsf 1200 every time you refer to it.

Or Suzuki Bandit 1200, or Suzuki GSF Bandit 1200, or the 1996 to 2005 Suzuki 1157ccm2 engine ,based on the 1990 GSXR 1127ccm2 engine, that came in the Bandit GSF 1200 motorcycle line..... :34
