THE BASTARD BUILD
« on: October 22, 2011, 10:49:03 pm »
Anthony picked up his 650r around the beginning of the year. started life as your everyday 650r. had a two bros pipe and not much else in the form of mods.

good looking clean bike........
added some new pilot powers, bar end mirrors, grips, new chain and vortex sprockets, and integrated led tail light.

also recovered the stock seat with some new carbon fiber look material.

rode it all season like this and slowly started accumulating the parts for the winter upgrades that we started today.

buell headlight/screen assembly

lsl superbike bars, should be here this week sometime
more mods to come as he decides which route he wants to go, but for now here is where we are.

bike stripped down, ready for the headlight mock up, and also cut and built the new exhaust hanger and brackets.
this is gonna be a cool little bike, and we are saving some of the mods as surprises, so stay tuned...........

Just hopped on here to start this thread and found it already here. Appreciate that I don't think I could've done a better job myself. Bars will be here tomorrow. Couple of the other mods are pretty much dependent on whether the Wife will let me since she likes to ride too lol. Also Have  Cox Racing Radiator Guard on it but it's hard to see from the pics. We tried to put a Z1000 rear shock on it, but the clearances were just barely too small to get it to fit. So if anyone knows of any good rear shocks that would be direct bolt ons let me know. The Z shock would've raised the rear like an inch or so. Debating now on whether to have the forks re-built with race tech internals or to go ahead with finding 636 parts i need to do a front end swap. Already have the 636 forks. just need the upper and lower triple (or an 03-04 stem for the lower as i have an 05-06 lower already), and complete front wheel.

do you have any extra links left over from that chain? i will buy them if you do, i need one red side plate for my 525 EK chain.(they dont come with a red master link, and they arent available to purchase)

Sure don't. Had to buy a black master link since they didn't sell a red one. Chain otherwise fit with no need to add or remove links. If I find some or a place that has them ill let you know.

Got the headlight and windscreen on today. Just have to wire in the lights and adjust the angle of the headlights.

yea i was gonna go with black also, but i think i'll just press out a red side plate, and press it on to a new master link so at least all of the outside side plates are red. Thanks

ok folks, got a little more done on the bike today. got all the mounts for the buell headlight assy made and installed. wired the headlight up, and did some clean up on the wiring. tomorrow its gonna all come back apart for me to clean and smooth the mounts(all made from aluminium) do a better job on the wiring(ran out of time tonight and just did it to get by for the pics), got some sensors to reroute and redo the headlight wiring(i dont like how its done at the moment). also may start on the frame by getting rid of all the unnecessary and now unused brackets. got a few pics to add, and dont mind how the mounts look. they are not completely finished. gonna clean them up, smooth them out, and probably paint them.
here is the fork tube clamps i made, and they are very secure. you can grab the light and tip the bike over without moving the headlight assembly ...

the lower headlight and adjuster bracket with the brake hose retainer added to it.....

the lower adjuster for the headlight...

the mocked up, slightly finished product, lol.....

also had to shorten and repack the two bro exhaust on it along with make a mounting bracket for it. this is a temp set up since anthony is gonna get a new full exhaust soon so this is very crude and not pretty......

also the cox racing radiator guard installed....

Just find an old Sportbike with busted plastics. Something you wont care to thrash around but runs good.

not done, just kinda put on the back burner for the time being...... anthony is trying to decide how we are doing the front susp. either respring the front or finish gathering the parts to complete the 636 fork swap.

Yeah, I've got a fiance' now so my money has been pretty tight. I've talked to her about it a little bit, and should start putting money back to get the rest of the front end parts in a couple weeks. After that I'm going to use some tax money to get a nice rear shock and a fresh set of Conti RaceAttack tires. Maybe a Power Commander depending on how much I get back and have left after I get an actual car since I'm not just carrying myself around anymore. If i can either talk her into letting me or get her, her own bike, I'll need a set of WoodCraft rearsets, prolly a z1000 seat as i plan to cut half the tail off and re-position all the electronics etc under it. Believe thats "making it a Bobber". Race headers and new exhaust somewhere in there. Good thing is I don't have to buy everything all at once so it will be a work in progress (especially getting her to let me make it a single seater since she likes to ride with me so much) and fairly slow going or done in spurts as funds allow. Sorry I haven't kept everyone updated on this, things have just been hectic and haven't really even been able to get on the site at all really. I really appreciate the show of support and enthusiasm for my build and it makes me want to get it done that much faster!
