Dirt, mud, snow...bring it !!
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:43:57 pm »
I've been riding dirt bikes since the ripe age of 4....and still love dirt on two wheels !! But these new Side x Side's are an absolute blast !! As with anything else...I can't seem to leave anything alone for long...while bone stock the RZRs is indeed a very capable machine....there is always room for improvement, or let's say....altered to meet an individuals preference  ;)  Detailed in this thread are two versions of the RZRs. Both started as brand new 2011 Polaris Ranger RZRs models. While both upgrades/changes are similar...one goes a little further with the design..and a little deeper into the wallet too !!

The transition begins with this...

Below is build one....this is really considered mild... The upgrades made are for comfort, protection, and increased ability.......oh, and appearance !!

Starting with the looks...the basic red body was swapped over to the Boardwalk blue/white LE package.

and custom hood..

From there an EMP half windsheild and composite roof was added complete with LED dome light !!

The half windsheild is great for summer riding, but winter demands a little more wind protection so a Polaris full windsheild was installed.

While we're at it....a little more protection from the cool air ( and also really minimizes dust and debris in the cockpit)..this is a full plexiglass rear windsheild also from Polaris.

Protection comes in the form of the Polaris "Pre-runner" front bumper, Polaris rear cage/cab extention, aluminum front and rear A-arm gaurds as well as a full length under belly skid plate made from UHMW, both from EMP.

One of the biggest upgrades to both performance and appearance is a new wheel/tire package... The OEM set up was the Polaris Crusher aluminum rims in 12x7 with ITP 900 XCT series tires. A really good combination for stock and the tires perform well on dirt and hard packed terrain, but wet, muddy and snow covered trails present a little more of a challenge...

Upgrading to the new "Monster" forged aluminum wheels from Raceline in 14x7 (4+3 offset) wrapped in the new "Rip Saw" tires gives a significant increase in traction in all kinds of wet conditions while still retaining great dry terrain manners as well...

The slight increase in profile also helps a little with ground clearance...

and I like the looks better too !!!

Something not offered from Polaris in the RZR line, but is an absolute must when ever you need to "park" on any kind of a hill or incline is a "parking brake". Thankfully the folks at EMP came up with this ingenious design that utilizes the foot brake and locks all 4 wheels....

A nice and convenient place to carry maps, cell phones, and other small items is the Polaris shoulder storage bag...

More upgrades are on the way for this one including a winch, an FM stereo system with over head speakers and an iPod link, and Fox Podium piggyback long travel shocks.

Coming up, build two....that has some serious hardware on it...

This RZRs also started life with a red body, but was replaced by Maier black laquer panels and a custom hood.

Wheel upgrade as well, but this time utilizing a dual beadlock design in carbon fiber and billet. Tires selection is the same "Rip Saw" extreme in the same sizes as the RZR above. Currently the "Rip Saw is the most popular tire on the market for the SxS ATV's !!

This RZR set up is for serious and extreme terrain...a full custom cage that is tied into the factory frame offers a much stiffer chassis and provides body protection as well as significant rider safety !!

Doors rather than nets are used on this one. These are by Pro-Armor and have been powder coated to match the cage !!

Suspension duties are handled by fully adjustable Elka's. These are the Stage 4 Elite and are the obvious choice for riders seriously committed to the cutting edge who refuse to make any compromises. These provide the highest performance and the most adjustability to suit aggressive and fast styles of riding.

Additional storage is obtained by the Polaris "Lock and Ride" cargo box. This box features a weather proof lid and can be removed in seconds with no tools required.

These RZR's continue to be a blast.....Windrock again over the weekend and explored new trails and over looks from the top of the mountain. I added Pro Armor doors and a Polaris lock and ride cargo box and both make the rides that much nicer. Since I sold my Viper, I'm not feeling the blue/white theme anymore. I have already started changing the looks with all white plastics and carbon fiber accents......
