Here's a pic of me sitting on my KLX250SF.  Somehow I do not look like a real sumo rider (like Bacon) - oh well, this will have to do.  In this pic, Rick and I have just ridden up to the overlook at Lake Melton Hill Dam.  For some reason, there's no one else up here and it's a balmy 48 degrees.

Talk about a newbie, that is me.  New to the forum and new to riding.  Only started riding August 2010. Been riding about 4 times.  Love it, addicted, can't wait to do it again.  I am sick of bad weather, and ready for the next opportunity to hit the trails.  I have anxiety about curves still but gonna kick that phobia this year.  Any advice on how to get over it please feel free to express thoughts.  Thanks

NeeNee, Welcome to the boards. There is plenty to help you with that. Best thing is to find a copy of the DVD Keith Code's Twist Of The Wrist 2. very helpful

Find a nice empy parking lot and just practice doing figure 8's ... the best teacher is saddle time. The more you ride the better you will feel about them.

Welcome!  As was mentioned, seat time is the best teacher.  However, MSF has a Dirtbike course that might be great, especially if you are getting started in the sport along with your family.  The closest one to you looks like Alparetta, GA (north of Atlanta).  Here's the link:

Get out and just have fun!

Thanks guys, I will look for the book and look into the class.  I took the drivers safety course at Chatt St. and that was fun.  I think ur right, best way to learn is seat time.  I don't have a lot of that right now, but I will by the end of this year.  I think I have a pic of my bike that I can post.  If not I will take and post it.  It gives me great happiness to just look at it.  Even more to ride it.

If my attachment worked, here is a photo of my TW.  Please don't say anything about her "chubby" back tire, she is kinda sensitive about it. :17

This bike is so much fun.  My first time riding was a blast, I was totally amazed at how she handled and how easy it was to ride.  I am a slow poke when in unfamiliar territory but speed doesn't seem to be a thing for me.  I enjoy the scenery and learning how to ride.  I am sure I will pick up speed as I get better but something comes over me when I get on this bike.  A friend of mine lowered the bike just a little so I would feel more at ease on it and that really did the trick. :18

Riding isn't about being fast. Cruisers can back me up in this one. lol It's about the ride and how you feel. if you enjoy riding the way you do. (not fast) why change it? :3
