my new bike 79 GL 1000
« on: March 24, 2011, 04:47:46 pm »
and future project ..

meager beginnings have great endings .
i fell in love with these bikes in 1983 when i took my first ride on a 1975 model , i was 15

it had a vetter windjammer on it and has been severely unloved

i have enough original parts to restore  this one like it rolled off the showroom floor

i also have two sets of hondaline motor guards , and an original passenger bar that's worth more than i paid for the bike , cause it was the first thing to go when installing trunks and saddlebags .

i like building things that cant be bought too , i have seen about every kind of goldwing there is , bobbered , cafe , chopped , supercharged , fuel injected  ,NOS 'ed, webbered , and turbocharged , those wingers are a really wild bunch you know  :23 , they really are great dependable bikes ,the old ones up to 78 were fast , they had high gearing and really hot cams ,not as fast as a Z 1 900 but faster than any 750 ,Curtie there is a fellow in maryville that has one 78 with a title, a parts bike and a bunch of extra parts for sale on craigslist Knoxville for $500 , be a great project , they are getting kinda scarce now , i would buy them myself but i have four LOL , i have enough parts to last my goldwings a lifetime .

Randy i am a Honda man all the way , that old Honda mower is the best riding mower i have ever owned , like all Honda's the brakes ain't too good but it mows like wildfire ..LOL

The original GL's were considered to be in the Supersport catagory......

...until Vetter got ahold of them and they became the best touring bike around.

Great bike! :21
