Z1000 first gen with zx10r throttle bodies
« on: October 03, 2013, 04:42:45 pm »
Well finally broke the bike down and did it. Not many pics but will let you know what all had to be done. First you need the 06-07 zx10 throttle bodies and go ahead and take the secondary butterflies out.
Now fun time.lol I took a saw zaw to my air box to get it out instead of dropping the motor. Didn't need it any ways. Using pod filters. Swap the zx injectors with the brown factory z ones. ( if not you will flood it out if you even get it to start) take your z mounts on the motor and spend them upside down. recommend using some lube to get the zx ones to pop on. Now you have to do a little wiring to the tps connector. Your blue and brown wire need to be crossed.you will need to set the position of the sensor cause of the difference from the zx to z. Between .96-1.03 on closed and 4.26-4.38 on open throttle. think that is right on open. I ran 4.3.  Also your grey connector is for your black sensor and black connector for your grey sensor.(pic below) yes I know my clip is broken. Lol. Vac lines that are on the zx bodies work fine just need to use one of your y connectors from the old vac lines to connect it together. Your throttle cables will end up going on the end of the bodies instead of the middle. Use the factory ones, they work fine. Use all the factory connectors. Forgot your injectors will be on the bottom instead of on top Like the factory.. Also one last piece is you will need to get some hi pressure injection hose. Any autoparts. I used 1/4". Now you need to either trailer it to get it tuned or if you want go on rider forums like I did and use there map they have for the swap until you get it up to be tuned and run the fuel mod as well as set the throttle position in the settings of the pc3 so it reads right. She opens up nicely. Has a little bad spot but that will be fixed In The tuning process.
I don't have my pods yet so put some panty hose around the ports to get the tune right to ride until I can get up to cycle gear this week. Plan on doing the flywheel this weekend. Hope this helps anyone out.

Write up is very good. I do have one question though. What is the goal you're after? I mean more fuel for more hp, torque, mpg, etc.

More overall power. Pulling the flywheel off in the am when I can find a damn puller.lol. going  to have almost 60% of it shaved off to make it the same size as a zx9 flywheel. Next is upgraded cams. Might do the zx9 ones but if I do I'm going to buy a set of like stage 2 ones and do it.

The throttle bodies give you more throttle response as if it was a zx10 and more low rpm power.

That is my next major upgrade to the gixxersaurous. Modern fuel injection. Been looking into it since back in '05. maybe next winter or winter of 2015. Give her some EFI for her 30th birthday ......

Sweet. I like it except for the high end drop in power. Loose enough to feel it in high rpms but hoping to kinda be countering it with the flywheel. I know I will add more bottom end droping the flywheel down but hope it helps some on top. Will see.

Nice work on the Z Donald !  Have you got your brakes and suspension tuned up as well? ,  I've said this before I think , maybe on your thread lol but anyway, so far my upgrades have all been suspension and brakes and man I'm telling you, it unleashed a rabid beast .  And oh Yea , went to see MikeE in Murphy, put me on a set of the new Power 3 which I am finally happy to say the 55 IS the right size for the Z that has 636 fork tubes cause they raise my front end by 4 mm so now that 55 meshes with front of the bike much better, sorry for long windedness but I just don't think a lot of folks start in the right places when upgrading a factory bike (not referring to you at all Donald) just saying,  after putting my $ into suspension and brakes , swear to God,  Skyway run times have been soooooo much faster

Lol your all good. Im running custom steel brake lines with hbc pads, 636 limited edition rear shock with front forks all rebuilt last year. Need stronger springs but works good for now. My bars are switched to woodcraft clip ons beneath the upper triple. Bike sits like a ss. Doing cams then going to look into upgrading the suspension even more.

Well I changed back to my original dyno tuned map. Need to take the fuel mod back out to seems to over load it on first hit. Let me say darn!! Did it ever open up. Almost to hard to keep the front down after 6k. Lol love it. If anyone is planning this mod let me know and ill give you my map table so you can try it.

Did you get your zx9 stator? Once you shave the flywheel you will have to go with the zx9 stator cause it will be bigger. Great write up princess :n21

No. You have to have the zx9 flywheel to use the zx9 stator. U just used the factory flywheel and cut it down. So the factory stator had to be used.

When I said have it shaved I ment the outside diameter sugar. Meant same size as in weight. But I'm actually less than the zx9
