Steering Dampers (929RR)
« on: February 14, 2014, 05:53:22 pm »
This is a little preemptive but I have been looking at steering dampers for the 929RR.  JUst in case the 1kRR fork upgrade turns out to be a bit too twitchy,  The forks are about 16mm shorter than stock forks.  I can compensate for some of it by lowering the forks in the triples a few mm below the top of the clamp.

My question here is, Has anyone ever installed one of the cheap ebay dampers. would a ohlins mount kit work with said damper.

$500+ just seems a bit high to pay for a top mount rotary style damper.

Draik has one from ebay that mounts on the top of the triple clamp and has had no complaints what-so-ever. I think it was ~$125 shipped

looks like it required drilling tapping the top triple clamp ?

Ive found a few on ebay but looking at the mounts have me a bit confused as I haven't found any with install instructions yet.  I would prefer some type of no drill method..

found these. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Motorcycle-Adjustable-Steering-Damper-Stabilizer-With-Mount-Bracket-Silver-/390736508668
the questionable part is the triangular piece with round/flat clamp.  Cant imagine where this would mount, sure you don't want to clamp flat stock to the fork itself.

The other question..  since ive encountered a few tank slappers in the past I would assume the mount needs to be pretty robust.  that's some serious force reacting to the bars/frame @ times..  Ive almost been tossed over the headlight and ripped the palm of a Good pair of gloves trying to hold on after the rear on my VFR slid out then rehooked fish tailing 3 times before it stabilized on its own..

Draik's utilizes the threaded holes where the stock "clip-ons" mount. If they were still stock, they would mount on top of the 250's clip-on base. It looks like the kit you show in your post mounts similarly. the flat triangular piece would be mounted to the top triple (requiring drill/tap) and the piece that has the two bolts mounts around the frame at the steering head. Much like Draik's set-up. The clamp on top of the piece with two bolts is where the body of the damper itself mounts. Refer back to the pic of Draik's and you can kinda piece it together.
