Dyna or Soft Tail?
« on: April 04, 2014, 08:05:54 pm »
I know a lot of you guys poke fun at the Harley's etc..  but I'm one of those few that like them..

so I'm thinking in August or this time next year plan on buy a HD... I'm gonna go used .. I seen that its a cheaper route no what brand you like...

so for those few out there .. what do you prefer?

me I'm leaning on a Super Glide

If I bought a HD it would be a bagger with air ride. So whatever that would be...lol

the fat boy is no bike to run the dragon. more of a road cruiser. i like fat boy for that reason. low and wide. no hot rod , by any means.

A sportster isn't considered a member of the family by most of the die hard HD guys. But, I like them other than the low versions. The low version has always been kind of a girl's bike.

Seriously though, go cop a squat on both and see which one feels right.

Only way to know.

To me, the Dyna feels all wrong as far as leg position. My legs feel tucked up under me, I think the bike would be better with forward controls. ( I've ridden the bike both ways, stretched out feels better to me. A more natural riding position ) and the bike is a bit on the short side, wheelbase wise, compared to my Roadstar. The Dyna rides like a VW Beetle, the Roadstar a Caddy. Power delivery is GREAT on the Dyna.

I would love to ride a Sportster, love the classic lines and looks!

As far as a touring bike, I'd be leaning either toward a Goldwing for the pure, all out comfort, reliability and power....... or one of the bagger style bikes that H-D produces. I think the 'Wing would be the bike of choice for the open road  :35

That's helpful info mike.

Experience counts.

You will really feel tucked on a sportster though.

They are small frame bikes.

To me it felt like my knees were up under my elbows.

Good power, lots of git to them, but small.

I know I talk a lot of smack about Harleys, but they are fun to ride.

Not so much fun to push.

They are heavy!

But I understand the EVO is a much more reliable piece of equipment than the ones I've owned.

Honda buying in did wonders for Harley reliability.

the glides does have option for forward controls. fxdc are factory. fxd do not but can be installed. as long as yo got a DL you can test drive any.

Well, I'll just be honest with you, until my brother in law bought a Dyna, I had never ridden one. Like I said, I was impressed with the power delivery and the amount of power available, especially from the 88 ( or maybe it was the 96 ). Anyway, it was a blast to ride!

I like ALL kinds of motorcycles, and I want to ride them all. My dream bike is a ST1300, and hopefully, since I have 2 new knees now ( gotta get the new one mended first! ), I will be able to ride one. We shall see!

And my next bike WILL have fuel injection..... :n21

My stepdad has a 08 soft tail.I rode it right after I got the nomad.I really liked it for most part.96 cu and injected.Everybody has their likes but I can't do forward controls.I'm more of a mid mount floorboard kinda guy.
