« on: May 08, 2014, 01:41:07 am »
According to this bulletin the vintage parts program being added soon.

All this talk of vintage parts support is great for folks like Dale and me who have a love for old blue and white sports bikes.

You would think that with the number of people revving these old bikes that "vintage", or at least reproduction parts would be more readily available.

After all, ford began reproducing a model coupe bodies.

And that simply because they are popular among the hot rod crowd.

Maybe this is the beginning of a new trend with manufacturers?

What does "riding season" mean?

I hope so.  It'd sure make life easier for people who like to keep the old bikes on the road.

And since the going rate for mirrors for the 1979/80 Suzuki GS1000S bike is $300 per mirror I'd say there's a market.

"S" mirrors sold for about $45 each from Suzuki until they were discontinued about 5 years ago.  Now....if and when one shows up on eBay anywhere in the world it launches a bidding war.  Even used ones go for a very pretty penny.  I saw a set that someone had cleaned up and repainted (but were far from new looking) go for a little under $400 for the pair on eBay.

Makes me wish I had bought 5 pair just for my use before they were discontinued.

well I understand.. when people want to restore they want it to look like it did on the show room floor... do you think these new 3D printers will be able to make OEM like products ?

That's a darn good question.  From what little I know about 3D printing I would expect an eventual revolution in small scale production of all sorts of goods.  How long that might take and what goods would be suitable for that sort of production remains to be seen.

I'd read that Suzuki had added the GS1000 to this program (with the RG500 coming soon) but couldn't find it listed in the UK based E-Bay store and could not find a US based store at all. I've checked around and with the exception of the Ebay.co.uk store I haven't been able to find any other Suzuki backed information.

Edit: I found this site that lists the bikes and parts. Once again, British based. https://www.suzuki-gb.co.uk/motorcycles/my-suzuki/vintage-parts/vintage-bikes/vintage-bikes/1/ It does include the GS1000S.

I looked at the vintage parts site and unfortunately, it doesn't appear that any obsolete parts have been brought back.  So, no mirrors, gas tanks or body work.  It may be that this is mostly PR on UK Suzuki's part.
