The completed report on the INTERMOT show in Cologne
« on: October 11, 2014, 02:11:42 am »
I wrote and photographed a report on the INTERMOT show in Cologne last weekend.  The complete report is posted in the Ride Reports section.  I've added a video highlights here.  Sorry about the annoying soundtrack.

Thanks Dale.  I'm glad you liked the report.  Sorry I ended up a bit negative on that H2 we were both interested in.  You need to go see the new Suzy GSX-1000 when it gets to the dealers in the US.  I'm pretty impressed with it and I'd love to hear what you think of it.

Attending the show and staying in Cologne aren't too expensive.  It was 14 euro per ticket or a bit less in advance but next time I'm getting the two day ticket. The show is really too big to see in one day.  We stayed in a very nice hotel right downtown on the Rhine river for about 125 euro per night. The meal in the hotel restaurant was a little spendy at about 75 euro for both of us but it was fabulous.

So, call it 50 bucks for gas each way, 40 bucks to get in the show, hotel was about 165 dollars and dinner was 100 bucks.  We could have easily watched pennies a little more and found nice but less expensive places to stay and eat and gotten the costs down to half what we paid.  One nice thing, you don't really need a car to get around.  If I were you I'd come over for a week or ten days and hit Cologne, Rothenburg and either Nuremburg or Munich.  Beats a cruise. Unless of course you're doing the river cruise aboard one of the Viking cruise line passenger barges.  Those look very cool.  My wife is bugging me about doing one of those.

this is an interesting idea (now that i'm thinking about it seriously).  it would be an awesome trip to bring my wife to Germany and see a few towns like that.  and if it just HAPPENED to be the same time as this bike show.  i'm going to have to do a little pondering and planning and see what comes of it.

but if nothing else, thanks again Chris for all the photos and the video and the great commentary.  i really enjoyed the whole presentation.
