new Bimota's at the Milan EICMA Show
« on: November 17, 2015, 05:51:12 am »
Almost none of us will ever be able to own a Bimota and they are the motorcycle equivalents of Italian exotic cars such at Ferrari or Lamborghini. Having said that, they sure are drool worthy items.  Also notice that they are selling a "rolling chassis" frame kit for the BMW uber-sportbike s1000rr.  Now that would be a heck of a project!  Years ago I was involved in building a Bimota SB2 in Austin Texas, getting the nod to do the wiring for the bike.  I remember being in love with the workmanship on the frame.  You often hear a lot of BS about "aerospace quality" welds and materials but the Bimota really did live up to that standard, easily matching the work I saw every day on the jets from McDonnell Douglas or Boeing.  One example was where the frame sections were bolted together.  Bimota used cone shaped joints so the frame returned to perfect alignment as the  bolts were tightened.  Clever!

My pick?  I'd love to own a Tesi.  (The name means "thesis" in italian.)  I'd probably drive the wife nuts by rolling it into the house and making a display out of it with lighting and a special rug under it.  Then Ian and I would have something to contemplate as we sipped our beers at night.  :)    Hey, classic Italian art should be venerated, right?  Ian and I spent about 45 minutes staring at the front forks of a MV Agusta once.  Great motorcycle design is mesmerizing.  :)

Bimota' supercharged Testastretta-powered Impeto and Tesi 3D RaceCafe debut in Milan

Bimota reveals hyper-naked making up to around 190hp and cafe racer version of Tesi 3D

HERE's Bimota's supercharged Impeto and Tesi 3D RaceCafe, which have just been shown for the first time at the Eicma motorcycle show in Milan.

Bimota's supercharged Testastretta-powered Impeto  just unveiled in Milan

The Impeto is described as a 'hyper-naked' using the 162hp Testastretta engine from Ducati’s Diavel, with an optional supercharger giving the 1198cc V-twin a boost in power and torque of 15-20%.
The firm says the supercharger kit has been developed for Bimotas using Ducati liquid-cooled engines and turns the new Impeto into a ‘true tyre burner’.
The Impeto comes with ABS, ride-by-wire throttle and traction control, and can be offered with carbon fibre swing-arm and frame tubes.

Bimota Tesi 3D unveiled in Milan

The ‘Tesi 3D RaceCafe’ is a café racer version of the existing hub-centre-steered Tesi 3D Naked.
It can be raised or lowered by up to 23mm by adjusting the front and rear swing-arms, the firm said.
For people who want to build their own Bimota, the firm is offering a kit version of its BMW S1000RR-powered BB3.
The ‘BB3 Kit’ consists of a ‘complete rolling chassis with all the necessary parts to build a fully functional motorcycle except for the engine and electric/electronic systems that come from BMW’.
