Late OCT or Early NOV Ride for ETB (((IF THERE IS AN INTEREST)))
« on: September 30, 2016, 10:01:55 pm »
Just saying, I would lead a ride for ETB  ---  IF THERE IS AN INTEREST.  :happypep :happyrider

Reckon might be a few roads you never seen before. I am thinking North or Northeast or East.

It ain't a Tourist Road Ride like the snake, rattler, dragon, cherohala, blue ridge parkway, etc.

Also, it ain't a Ride to Eat like most ride groups, but we would stop someplace for a Fast food and get Moving.

I would keep it to paved roads (maybe some 1 1/2 laners thrown in) of around 200 miles RT. Maybe a waterfall or cave or arch thrown in.

I mostly just ride.  :happypep :happyride  Have social events some other time.  :pop

Not that there would not be some socializing during breaks -- just not long BS Sessions.  :groan

ANY INTEREST --- Let me know and see what we can work out as a plan.
Since a lot of folks work -- make it a SAT or SUN.  Need to start someplace sort of central (Seymour is where I live and works good for the route I have in mind- Maryville would be OK except for traffic - maybe someplace else north).

Pick a day and time to start (earlier start the better).

Maybe a meetup for BKF at Food City ($3.37 with tax) or heck McD is quick and good.
Ride Country Roads - a lot. :-)

I'd be interested but my work schedule rarely allows for it. I'll never have a Saturday off but going into the fall I should have more Sundays free.

I figured Sunday would be better as lot of folks work on Saturday.

Anyway, as later OCT approaches - I need to know if anyone is committing to a ride because I'm not going to plan it and set a place and time and have no one show up while I am sitting there waiting.  :groan

Could be a weekday (I am retired) if that is the only day some can ride.

Heck, I mostly just ride weekdays  so can do it twice (weekday and weekend).  :happypep

PS: My thoughts presently lead to a route in area NE of here (NE of Seymour / Sevierville) to around Sneedville / Harrogate.

I am thinking in the 200 mile range after meetup.

I realize there is a problem with some folks having a distance to travel to get to a meetup and then to get back home. Perhaps a problem that will limit participation to folks Living Nearer to Seymour or a No Ride?

Just putting it out there to see if there is any INTEREST.

Unfortunately I'm doing good if I know my work schedule a solid week in advance.

It will not be a speed run ride, just some good roads.

I am thinking so far that it will be best for a Sunday. (due to folks working on SAT).

Just have to wait and see what the deal is as we get closer to the time.

In other words, looking for interest and commitment.  :happyrider

ISSUES --- See questions at end of this post.

I am not sure there is enough interest or should I say folks that can make a commitment based on responses. Marc probably will be able to commit - not sure about Ian, Chris, or Rick.

The whole idea might be put to rest for lack of interest, but I will go if one person commits.

OBVIOUS Sunday is a better day for folks that work (at least based on what Marc and Ian posted). SUNDAY is no problem for me as far as church is concerned (I'm not a church goer) and once in a while I do an all day Sunday ride (try to keep wife happy most Sundays and get back by around 1PM from my Sunday AM rides).  ;)

Here is what I am thinking --- I'm going to do it on a SUNDAY and pick a SUNDAY (getting close to the time to decide on a day) with a good weather prediction (say less than 30% rain coverage and hopefully a look at predictions say a week in advance will be accurate).

I would like to go NE (Harrogate area via Helms Ferry which is a bit unique for most folks) and ride some good roads past Harrogate which would include going onto Sneedville via Hwy 63 and a back road cutoff back to Hwy 63 then over Mulberry Gap to Sneedville. Then see if I can work in Elrod Falls (hopefully be some rain by then to make it worthwhile), and some other good curvy roads (Hwy 61) in the area, plus a very scenic Chinquipin road as part of the trip. I will put out a GOOGLE Link for the route soon.

ISSUES I see:
I would like to figure 200 miles as a maximum Round Trip from meetup at Seymour. Try to keep it to 8 or 9 hours for the RT.

That plan may not work. Might have to pick another route if most folks are coming from the west of Seymour.

I see one problem and that is distance to meetup for some (especially Marc and Rick). Folks could end up with a 300 mile day figuring distance to meetup.

QUESTIONS:
What Are Some Opinions regarding that issue?

How many can do a meet up at Seymour for a 8:30AM depart (could have BKF at McD or Food City if you can get there early enough, by 8AM, and make that a break before we start)?

Then how many can make a 200 mile ride (try to keep it an 8 hours or 9 hours back to there)?

It's gonna be a ride and not a lot of time for BS at stops. Tel your life stories at a social gathering some other time.  :'( >:D  :)!

Looks like a nice ride. I should be off Sunday the 23rd but that's just an assumption based on the current scheduling pattern. That's been known to not make much sense so...

OK  Keep Oct 23 in mind (should be some color and falls with in the couple weeks I was thinking would be a good ride time).

Thanks -- Fact is it may end up just you and me - maybe Ian and Chris and Rick as they are the only response of interest. Pretty sure Ian will go if he is not stuck at work. Jackie would go, but he is pretty much committed to church on Sunday. He and I have ridden these roads several times and I don't mind leaving him behind to allow those off on Sunday to join in.

Can you make it to Seymour for an 8:30AM start? You might need to get here before 8:30AM for a  brief break (bathroom and gas top off). Gas is next to McD - a WEIGEL'S

We could start a little later, but that means getting back later and folks that are not close may need some daylight to get home. Should be OK in Oct 23 time frame (daylight situation).

PS: You and I have had some good SUN AM Rides (into early PM) and this will be the first time to the NE as most others I tried to meet you someplace toward your way and wanted tog et back home by noon myself. It will be a long ride for you by the time you ride to here.

Maybe a split in area of Blaine for you to get to I-40 would help on your return trip home.

I did at least part of this before with you and the Clicks but I liked it so much I would like to do it again.I've never done the falls though.I was thinking a split at Blaine also.If anybody else wants to go like I said I can go on any sunday and I sure wouldn't want to keep anybody who wants to go from enjoying that awesome area.

Good Memory -- we came from N to S across Helms Ferry and went to Blaine.

The better part of this ride from Helms Ferry to Harrogate, to Sneedville, etc., is different. CYA  :)

looks good, but i dont know if i can hang for the entire ride time.

but i might be able to drop in on the route at some point given the tight schedule that Paul likes to keep ( crack that whip)

and i may be working to appease the wife at that point as i just bought a bike rather than a roof. . . . .

We may need to talk about a different meetup. You can see route from the GOOGLE Routes to pick a spot. Timing is the only problem -- but early in the ride I can make a predicted time for us (and would suggest you get to that point say 15 MIN early and wait). Further into the ride it gets harder to predict.

SAVE you coming all the way back to Seymour at 8:30AM.

It would be nice if you could make the Ferry Crossing (assuming you never have). There is always a chance the thing will not be running.

I call the Ferry at Rose Hill (Hwy 33 south of the new bridge at a Shell station) to make sure they are running. Then head further north on Hwy 33 to cross the bridge and then a couple more miles to turn into Sharps Chapel.

If the Ferry is not running --- have to change the route to get to Harrogate area (nearly impossible to set a meetup time after that).

If the Ferry is running --- time to cross the river depends on where the Ferry is when we get there (N or S side of river). We will be on S side. Also, makes it hard to set a meetup time.

Ideal would be a meetup before Ferry (Blaine or Luttrell or Rose Hill).

KIND of MOVED this solicitation for interest to a New Topic for final information and discussions.

Might be easier (at least for me) to keep track of things if all went to New Topic.
