PAULRIDES -- Wonder if ETB wants to RIDE in JAN for a 2017 Ride
« on: January 09, 2017, 09:45:00 am »
Looking at weekend, JAN 14 / 15,  weather, I think it does not get better than this for winter time:
SAT is partly Sunny with high of 64F, SAT night 45F low & Mostly Cloudy, SUN partly Sunny with high of 61F.

I suggest SUNDAY cause so many work on Saturday.  However, weather Saturday is also good and can do a Saturday.

See where the interest (IF ANY) lies????  Let Me Know if Any Interest and will Try to Work a Plan.

Good even think about a Ride to Eat as part of it.  Eating seems to be the most popular thing with most MC Groups.  :pop

MY Thought is either a get together for early lunch and ride a few hours after lunch (like a lunch at Buddy BBQ in Maryville -- just east of the Harley Dealer), or meet a bit earlier for breakfast (McD serves BKF all day) and then ride.

I suggested Maryville because it seems to be a reasonable mid point for many (it's about 25 miles for me).
I will try to pick a route that sort of loops around east or west and south of that area and folks can pick a point to depart (split) for their home.

THAT SAID, if only interest is from folks near Sevierville - then I would pick a meetup near Sevierville or Exit 407 of I-40 and work a plan for that.

ANYWAY -- I NEED RSVPs if there is any INTEREST.

No sense in making a big plan if no one is interested (last time only 3 went - Marc, Ian, and me)

Same two as last time (Ian and Marc). :happypep

Neither specified which day (I am assuming Sunday)

Showing 13% rain, 66% Sky Cover (cloudy), 51F at 10AM and 61F at 4PM. I'm thinking make it easy and not too long a day. WHAT YOU THINK??

One plan would be a meetup at Maryville McD about 10AM or 10:30AM for an 11AM Depart   -- BKF Snack or whatever while waiting). Then a 3 HR (maybe 4HR) loop back to east side of Maryville. End Ride about 3PM at latest.

BY THE WAY, the route  includes Homestead Mtn from E Miller Cove to Wears Valley Rd and another Mtn Loop off of Walden Creek thru the Summit. Can include a trip up Bluff Mtn and back to Goose Gap, that would add about 45 MIN to the route. Some of that is steep and switchbacks -- maybe not for rank beginners.

I ended route at Tuckaleechee Pike and Hwy 321 cause GOOGLE ran out of points and it is likely where I would turn back to home (about 25 minute for me).

You can see on the map link below, the loop and start and end point. I will likely turn back at the map end (about 25 minutes back to my house).

I think Ian lives out west of Harley and may want to stay on Tuckaleechee to Hwy 321.

Marc may want to look at a route to by pass Maryville with a more direct SW route to Hwy 336 then to Hwy 72 to Hwy 411 to Vonore (bypass Maryville).

Paul and fellow travellers,

I note that your route takes you very close to my house off Six Mile Rd.   Would you be interested in a stop for lunch at my place?  Food and drinks on me and I'd love to see you guys.

Chris

THANKS for the Offer.  :) Could end up more than just Ian, Marc, and me (but as of now I doubt there would be). On the other hand mention a FREE Lunch and even the Non-Riders show up.   :happyrider

PM me your exact location (Ian told me one time, but I don't remember exact location).

I can take a look and see what I can work out. I reckon it would be about lunch time if we kind of skipped the BKF at meetup (no problem can do that, just have a coffee or something).

Time would be the only thing. I am not on six mile much - how far out of the way is it? I can visualize a long stop with BSing, etc. Maybe keep a stop under an hour??  Maybe leave from Meetup at 10:30AM to help the time problem.  Keep lunch to a minimum, don't need a big spread or grill cookout (a visit would be nice).

I would like to get home about 4PM (Betty thinks 2PM would be ncie -- that ain't gonna happen).  >:D

Paul, Marc & Ian,

PM sent with my address.  I was thinking of a light lunch like soup and sandwiches but could easily do burgers and chili if that would be preferred.  Just let me know and if possible let me know the estimate time of arrival.  If anyone else would like to drop by to visit with ETB friends even if you're not going on the ride let me know and I'll send my address.

Weather permitting we might break out the .22s and do some plinking.

Chris

Its possiblr i could chase your route. . . . . Again.

With us working different shifts, the only time we get is weekends.

And she will not want to go for any extended rides.

Maryville is an hour+ on the slab for me, and i just dont like slab riding much.

But put me down as a deffinate maybe.

I will try to keep my sunday plans fluid
What does "riding season" mean?

Since offering a free lunch and a greet and meet, my Ambulance driver said it would not be a problem for us to run by there.  Still not riding two wheels.  Need to know if the meal applies to ambulance driver or I'll have to stop off at McDs for him. Ha.

I checked Chris's location. Say 5 miles off route (guess 20 MIN there and back to route). Then gonna spend 30 MIN eating and BSing. That's probably a minimum knowing how these things go and is still a Eat and Run.

Personally, I am thinking doing a lunch thing there another AS A PLAN FOR A LONGER RIDE DAY time and spend more time Visiting and BSing makes more sense.

THAT SAID --- If everyone that planned to ride would rather just meet at CHRIS's at say 11AM, have the lunch, leave at noon and then do the rest of the ride I had planned..

Rest of the ride would include  going to Six Mile RD (5 miles) puts us back on route. Then do Butterfly Gap, and the rest of the ride including Homestead Mtn, Summit, Maybe Bluff Mtn, then head back west toward Maryville as originally planned.

I think can still get to around Maryville (Tucaloochee Pike / 321 Jct) around 3PM and split up. I would head back to Seymour (Jct of Boyds Creek and Hwy 411/441).

WHAT YOU SAY????

Sidecar for Jackie.  :happypep Ain't Any Side Car could handle that weigh hanging off the road.  :banghead

Add to last comment I made about just doing a meetup / visit / lunch at Chris's after looking at map.

It sort of is a choice of Social Gathering VS a Ride Gathering. I like both, but I like rides more, say PAULRIDES. I do understand a lot of folks are more into the social part of riding (especially folks that like BS Sessions.

Choice 1) Do a lunch thing another time when more time to visit, BS, etc. and make it a Social Gathering with a short ride or no ride.

Choice 2) Lunch at Chris's and Ride the Rest of the Loop. If that is the choice, get to Chris's at 11AM and out of there at Noon. That would work for doing the rest of the ride and ending up at the point I showed on the original map by about 3PM.  By THE WAY,  I can still meet anyone that wants to meet earlier to go to Chris's (like at Maryville McD as originally planned or another place). It's about 30 MIN to Chris's from the McD, so meet there would be for depart at 10:30AM. LET ME KNOW if NEED to Meetup?????

Choice 3) Can extend visit at Chris's and skip or shorten the ride.

Choice 4) Forget the lunch this Sunday and do the Ride.

RICK, By The Way -- If you want to play catch up, surely can once we deiced on a plan. Long ways to here for you , but you can  split off the ride earlier (close to Hyw 411 / 441 and half way from Sevierville to Seymour VS  going back toward Maryville.

Finally, I need to make decision --- Those interested pick a Choice and By Doggie We'll Get'er Done.

It does not make a lot of difference to me.

I have one other guy from my Rider's E Mail List (TerrE) that was going to go on the original plan.  He does know about a possible lunch at Chris's.

It would certainly have to be Sunday for me. The wife works early Sunday mornings, I'll have to see if she's going to be off early enough for me to make the meet in the AM.

Marc, it would be easy for Paul to keep the side car on the road.  I'd have my 9mm pointed at his knee.  My weight wouldn't be any trouble then.  Need a bungy cord to keep him on his bike and not falling over.

Paul,

My plan for Sunday is easy...have lunch ready for anyone who shows up.   So far I'm planning on 3 unless I hear otherwise.

Ian,

Need kid support to be able to make the ride?

Not getting answers to the 4 Choices. Maybe Soon ????   :beg
Maybe too complicated ????   :banghead
I will just pick one by SAT AM and POST IT unless I hear.   :happypep

OK
At least included 3 (skip ride and visit).
Now we have another choice 5 (Plinking after lunch) - Bring Guns?????

OK THEN  :banghead

MY THOUGHT NOW ARE ---

Meet at Chris's at 11AM for LUNCH -- BSing --- Plinking
I'm gonna leave sometime (say noon or a bit after) and ride. Anyone want to ride follow me (those that don't can Stay,  BS, and Plink).

The route from CHRIS's will be about this route (depends on when we leave as to how far we get). Need to leave about noon to do all of it.  Had to go figure it out (so late update to post)

Hey all,

Just to make sure I was clear, let me restate the invite.  I'll be glad to provide lunch on Sunday at my place to any fellow ETB'ers who want to drop by.  I think Paul, Marc and Ian may be passing through on their ride but if you want to drop you'll be very welcome whether you're on their ride or not.  If you think you'd like to show up let me know and I'll send a message with my address.  I live between Maryville and the Foothills Pkwy off of 6 Mile Rd.

There's some thought of doing some plinking after lunch as well so if you'd like to help deplete my unfortunate surplus of .22 ammo I could probably use the help.

(.22s provided or bring your own.)

Chris

I think we have a plan   :)  :21

Add to that -- go back a post (my previous) for a look at the map (ride route, it's a dandy) after Chris's Place. BY THE WAY --- The Map does not start at Chris's Place (I did not want to put his place on the web).

PLUS:
Anyone want to meet early to follow me to Chris's (LET ME KNOW) and we can set a plan to meet up.

I am thinking Marc might want to do that. And, if TerrE still wants to join us he might want to meet up.
PS: TerrE  may change his mind since we are talking extended visit at Chris's - originally it was more of a ride. (I am going to send him the new idea and see what he wants to do).

A meetup for Marc or TerrE at the MCD as we originally planned would work - NEED to be ready to ride from there at 10:30AM. So, get there by 10:15AM.

Do not argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and beat you with experience.

OK -- Meet at the McD (you got it from the first map, that's it). See you for a 10:30AM depart.

I will probably get there in time for a bathroom visit and coffee.

Hope we don't get rained out -- think it is a 30% deal now. Have to see what the radar says.

The weather (rain / drizzel) is not perfect for the event.   :groan

Depending on where you look -- it should be from 0 to 20% til about noon, then drop off until about 4PM and back up to 20%. Radar is showing scattered small green spots in a line back to Nashville. So, likely get a drizzel or light rain and see some damp or wet roads. More  :groan  At least it is not  :brrr

I plan to proceed with the plan and meet Marc at Maryville McD at between 10 and 10:15AM for a 10:30AM depart to leave for Chris's.

Take about 30 MIN to get to Chris's for some Plinking, Visiting / BSing, Lunch. Leave  there at 12:30PM to do the ride. if anyone wants to ride (if no one wants to ride, hang out a little longer and do part of the ride on my way home). Marc said he wants to ride, so probably leave at 12:30PM to get the full ride back to just east of Maryville.

CYA -- Should be a fun event if the weather does not go haywire on us. Bring rain gear.  :happyrider

The ride contains some steep and curvy terrain (see how the roads are --- for sure we need to take it easy).
