  • I might be old, but can mount without help. HA!
Route goes by Evansville because Marc lives there, has day off THU and it has been a long time since we rode.

Check out a Fire Tower near Marc's home, then Pump Power Visitor Center (Racoon Mtn), them Missionary Ridge (S and N Crest Rd), then a maybe stop at Cherokee Memorial.

This Ride is beyond my normal Day Ride in miles and time at about 335 MILE and 10 HRS Total.   Like the Little Train in the kids book "I Think I Can, Think I Can".  :happyrider
PS: That be about 8HR Steady Ride Time plus stops and breaks Equal 10 HOURS.

Don't count on any long Lunch Bull Session Stops. Might be only Convenience Store stops for breaks (bathroom / gas / food at most) or perhaps a Fast Food.

DEPART: Thinking 7AM  at WIEGOLD'S at Seymour (Jct Hwy 338 /411/ 441 where 411 turns west to Maryville).
PS: Meet Marc at Hwy 302 and Pleasant Rd near his home (about 95 miles from Seymour), hope to get there by 9AM.
PSS: Can meet on route, let me know and work it out.  (be there waiting cause don't want to take time waiting for anyone). :-(

ROUTE: Most of it shown here, but have to finish from end of this GOOGLE to Seymour which will add about 45 miles and 1 HR plus. Note: May alter return and skip the Cherokee Memorial (depending on time could jump on I-75 for some more miles coming home)

LUNCH: Like I said, long ride miles and time, not wasting time in a set down order restaurant (don't care much for them anyway). Bring snacks, might be a fast food stop and for sure a convenience store stop (gas and or break for bathroom - they have food of some sort).

Chris asked about meetup at Maryville in the other topic (TaDA).

I suggested this:
Yes, going thru Maryville. I was hoping you might join us, but thought distance concerned you. It will be considerably shorter for you as you save on meetup and return home.

However, I would suggest easier to meet away from Maryville traffic. Less miles overall by a good amount, skip the Maryville traffic, and nothing but a straight boring ride from Maryville on Hwy 411 going south to the other two meeting places I am going to suggest.

From the church on Hwy 336 --- one of two meetups.

First meetup to the MARATHON at Hwy 95 and 411. GOOGLE says 12.7 Miles and 18 Min. It generally takes me 45 MIN (+/-) to get there. So if you get there  by 7:35, would have 5 or 15 MIN wait.

Second meetup at HARDEE'S in Vonore, TN on corner of Hwy 411 and Hwy 360 (by the way, can take a different route than shown by staying on Hwy 336 to Hwy 411 and south to Vonore). The route shown is a more interesting ride and only a couple minutes longer.  GOOGLE says 19 Mile and 25 Minutes. I t generally takes me 1 HR +/- to get to Vonore. So, if you are there  by 7:50AM, would have about a 5 or 15 MIN wait.

I am trying to make time getting to the meetup with Marc, so I will pull in and hopefully leave right away. That said, good chance I will need a bathroom break or a quick stretch of a leg by VONORE. ;) Just not planning any long delay for coffee, or whatever.

Marc,

I plan to stop long enough to call you when I reach Hwy 68 Dam, hopefully have cell service. Then it will not take long for me to get to Hwy 302 and Pleasant Rds (or if you want to meet at the chapel, be there where I can see you). We can resolve where to meet when I call you from the Dam.

I don't have a clue what Chris is going to do.  I called him last evening to tell him to look at the two choices for a meetup and basically, I assume he knew I needed to know which he intended to do.

He has not replied as to what he will do. So, I'll look and not stop at the first place (Marathon on Hwy 411). I will stop at HARDEE'S in VONORE as very likely need a bathroom break by then. If he is not there, I will move on.

DANG the weather  --I am not believing this, looks like the pattern will be bringing in moisture from the gulf.

Showing scattered 40% to 50% starting as early as noon in Chattanooga. Not good to be doing Missionary Ridge.
Hopefully, get thru the Racoon Visitor Center, then may have head back toward home.

Yup.But its scattered  and isolated and less than 50% at that so should be OK for the most part.

You convinced me rain would be OK (AFTER THE RIDE as I just now read your post).  ;) I think we were lucky as it was around us and we apparently just missed it at Racoon Mtn based on the wet roads there.

We did finally hit somewhat serious rain shortly after we turned N on on I-75 from Hwy 30.  Not a pour down, but bad enough for road every wet, trucks (too many of 'em) kicking up spray and it looked like for miles ahead. So, I got off at Hwy 68 and stopped at Weigel's (gas, ice cream cone for $0.79) and checked radar.

It was a very heavy cell heading NE from our location. I imagine we were there 30 Minutes and then went on to Hwy 122 Exit to head for Hwy 72 near Vonore, TN. Had very light rain (more like hard sprinkles a couple times) until we got to Hwy 72/411 and then dry roads and clear skies.

I got home about 7:35PM after a gas stop at Seymour Weigold. 360 miles R/T from house to house and averaged 67 MPG for the last 500 and some miles. Gotta love that Scooter for comfort and MPG.

Front tire lost 12 PSI for the trip. It was down to 24PSI (but 27PSI is ideal for that tire).

PS: Glad we got to make the ride and you got out for a day and perhaps saw a couple new things (Racoon Mtn and Cherokee Trail of Tears Memorial). Hopefully, we can do it again someday.
