ETB Lunch-Plink-Ride-Race @ Chris's house 8 Apr

Last year we had a couple of Lunch-Plink-Ride happenings at my place near Maryville.  I thought they were great fun and wanted to do it again and thought the whole experience could be helped if we did it on a weekend when a MotoGP was happening.

Such an alignment happens on the 8th of April.  The Grand Prix of Argentina will be held that day and we can watch it, as well as do the usual activities of riding, eating, and shooting.  I think itíll be fun and all ETBerís are invited.  The racing will probably be televised here between 1100 and 1630 with the main event, the MotoGP race probably starting about 1500. There will be more details about the race show times as we get closer to the event.

If youíd like to make it please drop me a line using a private message or post a reply on this thread. I'll make sure you have the contact info and address.  Everybody is welcome, I just want to be sure to have enough food and drink on hand.  Donít worry about bringing food and drink, just bring yourself and an appetite!

(Iím especially hoping Paul will be able to make so he can shoot with us and try out my old Ruger Single Six revolver.  Heís getting pretty damn good with those airguns and I want to see how he does with a single action revolver.)

One improvement for this time is that I laid out a 100 yd range for anyone wanting to give their rifles a little room to work out in.

If I am still alive and able and weather is decent --- I will be there.

If my CHEAP ($119) Heritage Ol West Style (22 six shooter) is any indication --- as long as it is less than 20 feet range (I'm not too bad).

Shot it today (had a rest) and at 20 feet, kept most in a 4 inch target --- went to 30 feet and 3 of about 14 in a 4 inch target (rest might have been within 6 inches).

Anyway, looking FWD to get together, food and drink, shoot (have a three 22 pistols now), plus a CHEAP $129) Hi-Point 380 and Medium Price ($189) pretty decent 9MM.

My best weapon at 30 feet is the Pump Up Pellet (mostly with 3 inches in basement at 42 feet - shooting from rest).

Amazing, I even hit the cardboard I had a 8 1/2 x 11 target mounted on -- About 4 shots hit a foot below the target and somewhat grouped --- THAT BE 50 YARDS shooting from rest with like 7 or 8 pumps.  Did better with it than the two 22s (the six shooter was worst of all - and the Semi SR22 Ruger was not too bad).

Different colors on target (50 yards) show which gun used.

Actually, ontario california, it a "suburb" (usinv that term loosely of los angeles. Its all one big outhouse pit that stretches for miles and miles.

Funny thing, had a pick up in compton, south central, yeah baby, that place. Ans met some of the nicest most helpful people i have encountered on this job so far. Had a good long talk with a former gangbanger gone family man that just couldnt believe i lived where i do, even after showing him pictures. His idea of country was the ontario part of l.a., which makes knoxville look like sneedsville.

Interesting --- What by the way are you doing in CA in the first place?

I lived in Downey and then Orange (1960 to 1965). Loved CA (mtns, beaches, desert). Not too crowded where I was.

The boss and i are working at panther expediting now, driving truck together. They pretty much keep us on a west coast loop.

Yeah, its pretty, once you get past the concrete.

Actually quite amazed at sitting in downtown l.a. and looking at snow capped mountains just a few miles awsy.

But they tend to keep us west coast since we are a team truck and can run nonstop.

You know, you can drive out an 11 hour clock and never leave texas?

On the interstate.

Going in a single direction.

A different life is trucking, I imagine. Certainly nicer as a team (with wife) than on the road long periods alone.

Good Luck to you.

We have been in every state except HI.

Spent 5 years (1960 to 65 in S CA).

Then moved to East Coast, still worked for the same company based in CA (1965 to 1993).

Just before retirement we went to WA on a job (OCT 1993 til June 1995). Rented an apartment -- house in FL sold while we were in WA.

Went full time RVing at retirement, 1995,  and covered some more of the western states we had not been in before.

Called back to work in WA in 1996 (spring), decided to do that.

Then left WA in June for our Alaska trip. June until just before labor day (RV Trip).

BEEN a GOOD LIFE.  :21

Just a quick reminder of the Lunch-Ride-Plink session at my place Sunday.  All ETBr's are welcome.  Show up at eleven-ish and stay as long as the ammunition, food, and drinks hold out.  No admission to the MotoGP race.   Nothing fancy in the food department but Paul likes my chili.

If you want to come please send me a PM and I'll send my address and directions on how to get here.

Right now it looks like we'll have fair weather for the event and so far three folks have said they're coming.  More would be more better!

Chris

Oh yes...I know that very well.   I've made the I-10 crossing many times.   As I used to tell my British neighbors when they made fun of my stories about what a slog driving across Texas was, you can drop the entire UK into Texas without touching the borders.  From Land's End (Cornwall) to John O'Groats (tip of Scotland) is less than El Paso to Beaumont.

Ooops.  Forgot to mention I've also gotten some pretty good beers to share.  AFTER the shooting of course.

Usual selection of other drinks also available....sodas, water, coffee, etc.

Or, riding with them (beer drinkers) for that matter.  :groan

Did you set an arrival time?

Consider 40F at 10AM  ----  49F at 1PM  ---- 53F at 3PM   Not much change after 1PM.

50F not too bad for shooting depending on sun and wind. Wind around 5MPH (not bad), Sky Cover jumps to 50% at 2PM and stays that way til 5PM (not bad).

I can ride any of that, but expect you not want us there until near noon. Then, maybe eat, then shoot (let it warm a bit).

BTW -- Really feel we should all bring something. I am willing, but guess you are saying NOT.

Your thinkings all cramped, the best empties to shoot at are fresh ones. . . .  :banghead

Not once have i ever put down a beer to shoot. I shoot one handed :34

Just to inform your arrival time, the racing coverage starts at 1215 but that'll be the lower classes, Moto 3 and then Moto 2.  I would guess the Moto GP (main event) race will start around 1330 or so.  In any event, I'll be recording it so we can always opt to watch later.    I'd guess your plan to eat first, then shoot will work fine and then we could watch the racing.

I'm pretty flexible about this...Semper Gumby!

Thanks for the offer to bring something but I think I've got this covered.  If there's some drink you'd particularly like by all means bring that but I'll have the usual stuff, water, sodas, coffee, tea and beer for later.

Empty ones, HMMMM!!!! - what about the geyser effect when you hit a full one?   ;D

Latest prediction - 42F at 11AM  /   50F by 2PM  / 53F high.

It's 34 miles from here to you, GOOGLE says 52MIN - I will probably arrive about noon.
