Another Tire Thread... Not Really
« on: August 07, 2011, 09:14:43 pm »
There is a guy who wants me to change his tires.
I usually don't do spoke or tube tires... By choice.

He is doing PP 150/120.
Do the ribs in the tire effect the tubes longevity?
Do you guys replace the tube with the tire each time?

Thanks.

Why is there never enough time to do it right the first time, but always enough time to do it over?

It's has always been a good practice to change a tube when you change the tire. And a secrete with tubes is baby powder. This will help keep from pinching the tube while putting the tire on.

Yeah, I know the secret to changing tube tires...

I stopped changing them 25 years ago!!! :21
But I am getting soft in my old age and I am starting to help other riders out more who have less skills with Snap-On products.
I am even wrenching on Harley's...
Not many people hate Harley's more than I do.

I never minded working on Harleys. I didn't like some of the people that owned them............. For some reason a Harley brought out the as*hole in some people? But I think what alot of the problem was when they brought me a bike they saw alot of sportbikes and then the cruiser vs sportbike thing would come out in them. To alot of them we were just hooligans. Not knowing I love all bikes. lol

My issues are not with the HD owners. I actually meet quite a few who I like. I won't ride with them...
If I work on their bike, I feel that they are decent people or I wouldn't give up my time.

My problem is the Chrome!
Really? I have to remove the pipe to pull the axle?
Do you know how much rust is under all that chrome. :o
The last one I did, last week, I had to put a pipe wrench on the pipe just to break it free from the header to slide it off.
The rust had it just about welded on.
I took emory cloth a smothed it down, but it will be just as bad next year when we do it again.
His Yamaha Road Star was a pleasure to work on. He does not even like the HD as much as he did the Yamaha.

You just don't have that problem with carbon fiber and titanium. :21

If you do start doing tube tires on a regular basis let me know I have a few friends who would be interested.

That is not on my fun things to do list.
If I were a business, I would do it for the money, but since it is just a hobbie.
I will let someone else deal with tube and spoke tires.

I would rather build you that DVD case.   :13
